I do agree that this video wasn’t meant to be deconstructed. Not most videos these days have any sort of substantive qualities worth of critical analysis.
However call me a square if you want to, I still believe if I’m watching a visual interpretation it should have a point, or tell a story.
That is just my opinion though.
A couple years ago I vowed to stop listening to Hot 97 and the other major NYC stations. It’s way too saturated for my taste but I recognize it is what the people want.
I was in Harlem the other day and saw these little girls bumping, grinding, and gyrating about to this song outside. I thought to myself

“that’s just what the world need more of”

The song imo is great and the music video is one of the first to use celebrities to prmote it. If nothing else, you can’t ignore the success of both the song and the music video. Both have been hitting the top of charts countrywide and are on the air (here in NYC at least) every 15 minutes.

It’s a catch 22 with Blame It (on the Alcohol) because as you wrote
“the song is JAM”!
As much as I hate admit it the beat is great for getting on the good foot.
It totally deserved a waaay better video than that.
What happened to Hype Williams? He used to be so talented with the music videos? Perhaps he was forced to do it that way. I have to rationalize it somehow.
